READING

- THE TEST OF RESISTANCE TO COLD
- THE LITTLE DONKEY AND THE WHITE TABLECLOTH
- THE LIZARD IN LOVE

we had to read three stories, the first was about a condor and a fox, who challenged each other who would resist the cold of the night in the top of a mountain, in the end the condor survives the hard night.

the second story was about a man who an old woman gave him a donkey who gave money if you tell him the magic words, this man let his friend take care of the donkey, but when his friend realized his magical powers, he changed it for exactly the same one, at the end of the story the man discovers his friend and life gives him his due.

and finally the last story is about a girl that fell in love with a boy after she saw a lizard, one day the boy decided that he was tired of being human so he returned to his true form and transformed into a lizard again, he came closer to the girl and she threw him a rock and hit him in the head, the next day the boy returned home with a bandage in his head and the girl found out that he was the Lizard and he never came back again.

This three texts helped us to improve our reading comprehension.

CLASS ACTIVITY: MY NAME IS MALALA

When I was born, people in our village commiserated with my mother and nobody congratulated my father. I arrived at dawn as the last star blinked out. We Pashtuns see this as an auspicious sign. My father didn’t have any money for the hospital or for a midwife, so a neighbour helped at my birth. My parents’ first child was stillborn, but I popped out kicking and screaming. I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain; their role in life simply to prepare food and give birth to children.

Look one sentence in the text and indicate what kind of sentence it is:

My father didn’t have any money for the hospital or for a midwife, so a neighbour helped at my birth.  it's a compound sentence

In this activity we were able to test the knowledge acquired in class about Compound, Complex, Simple and Compound-Complex sentences.

also this slideshare is very usefull to understand that types of sentences: https://es.slideshare.net/guest2e9cea2a/simple-compound-complex-compound-complex-sentences

My Next Door Neighbor Is A Witch

This poem is about a with it was written by Samiya a eight years old girl that like to write poems for her familly.

I chose this poem because it's funny and it's made by a 8 years old girl. This activity helped us to practice our pronunciation and also our memory.

READING ACTIVITY

A couple months ago the teacher made us go to the library to read some magazines in english, he gave us a handout that we have to complete with the specific magazines and articles that we read, and also write down all the words that where new to us.

in that i activity i remember that i read about SAD, that means seasonal affective disorder, and you will say... what is that?... im going to explain you, in winter people often get sad, either because of the environment or because the days are shorter, so in Norway and Sweden are fighting this seasonal affective disorder with "light rooms", this light rooms are places where theres a lot of light (of course) but in this place people can come and read books listen to music or enjoy the company of other people.

this activity was my favorite because the enviroment of peace in the library is the best, we could also read the articles we wanted, and learn about other cultures by reading.

CLASS ACTIVITY: WRITE A NOTE FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS.

1- MY FATHER: Hi dad, can you please pick me up at the mall at 6:00pm, please call me, i will be waiting for you at the first floor of the pizza shop.

2-PAUL A FRIEND: Hey Paul! im sorry but i will not be able to meet you today for dinner, please call me later and i will explain you.

3-LESLIE THE ROOMMATE: Hello Leslie, I need your help! i had to leave from work early today...so can you please return my books to the library, I would be very grateful, bye!

4-MY MOTHER: Hi mom, Happy birthday!, your friend Sandy called to wish you a happy birthday also she wants you to call her back, see you in a few hours, i love you! bye.

I like to do this kind of activities because we can improve our grammar and also use our imagination, like… “How would you respond to your mom?”. It made me think if it the grammar that I was using was correct or not, or if the or if the other person would understand me.

CLASS ACTIVITY: STOPS AND COMMAS

Periods: it ends a sentence, they are used to mark the completion of a complete thought.

Comma: it indicates a pause in a sentence. also, it's used to mark off a section of a sentence, join two sentences and to separate items in a list.

For example: He walked all the way home, and he shut the door.

This activity helped us to comprehend better the use of commas and periods, expanding our punctuation knolewge.

also if you want more information about commas and periods you can look in this web page

PAPER FISH STORY

I found this history very interesting, at the beginning I couldn’t associate any moral or something, but then I interpreted that the release of the origami fish, her creation, is the liberation of their work and their ideas, that when you have an idea you have to set it free so it could materialize, you have to take control of your actions and If you want that your aspirations come true you need to move or do something to make that happen, I really liked the story because its creative and it’s a different way to see things, and the drawings on it where really cool.

This activities helps us to improve our reading comprehension, this particular story made me think a lot about the meaning this could have.
